And fosters are the heart of our organization.  Unlike a brick and mortar shelter, our rescue exclusively utilizes foster homes to welcome cavaliers to our program.  The dogs are provided a soft place to land and, for some of them, it might be their first experience in a traditional American home.  Many dogs come into rescue in a very fearful state and foster families are paramount to a dog's transition to their forever home.  Successful foster families will have a yard with a physical fence, and have time to provide love and support to their foster dog.  Interested candidates will fill out an application, have a phone conversation with a foster coordinator, have a veterinarian reference check if they own any dogs, and will meet with a foster coordinator in their home.  We ask all of our foster volunteers to complete the Fear Free Shelters course for valuable training on managing their foster dog.  Foster parents provide training and love, as well as valuable information about the dog's personality and preferences, ensuring a successful placement with their forever family.  Most supplies are provided by the rescue, but if possible, foster parents are asked to provide treats and toys.  Our veterinarian partners provide medical care to the pups in our program, and foster parents transport dogs to appointments as needed.  All medical costs are covered by the rescue.  You can expect to care for the dog from two weeks to three months, depending on the needs of the dog (medical care can take a few weeks at the very least).  We provide food, crates, collars, leashes, medical care, education, and support throughout the foster journey-not to mention endless cavalier snuggles!
